  • Summary
  • Support the Airport Manager in overseeing daily airport operations, ensuring compliance with national and international aviation regulations, maintaining safety and security standards, and promoting excellent passenger and stakeholder experiences. Involves staff supervision, operational oversight, reporting, and assisting in strategic initiatives to enhance airport efficiency and safety. Perform all other airport manager-related duties as assigned.

  • Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • * Leadership & Management: Act as Airport Manager in their absence, performing all managerial functions. Provide leadership to staff to ensure high performance, customer service, and a positive work environment. Assist management (Airport Manager, Airport Director, HR) with development and implementation of systems, programs, and initiatives. Develop employee schedules with the Airport Manager to ensure proper coverage. Lead and participate in site-level meetings and training.
  • * Operations & Performance: Direct daily airport operations and monitor performance against assigned budgets. Assist in coordination and oversight of contracted works and liaise with governmental partners. Oversee day-to-day collection and reconciliation of airport revenues. Ensure proper inventory of essential supplies and materials. Manage and track required documentation using asset management software. 
  • * Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with all national and international regulations, applicable laws, and Avports/IADP policies. Keep up to date with new legislation, safety, and security standards. Participate in aerodrome inspector training and conduct periodic inspections of aerodrome facilities and assets. Assist in development and maintenance of airport manuals and plans, (i.e., Aerodrome Manual, Aerodrome Emergency Plan, Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP), Vegetation Management Plan, Disabled Aircraft Removal Plan, Safety Management Systems, etc.)
  • * Strategic Planning & Development: Implement and monitor Avports and IADP plans, goals, and objectives. Work with management to implement airport systems and environmental initiatives. Participate in preparation and maintenance of the airport masterplan and coordinate planning activities with internal and external entities. 
  • * Reporting & Administration: Assist Airport Manager and Director with routine and ad hoc reporting, including data collection. Maintain and update operational and planning documentation.
  • * Stakeholder Engagement & Public Relations: Coordinate public outreach initiatives and dissemination of aerodrome information. Organize meetings and special events, present information to local and regional groups. Participate in negotiations with air carriers, leaseholders, contractors, vendors, and public entities. Ensure airport users are informed about airport conditions via publications and aeronautical notices.
  • Qualifications and Experience
  • * High school diploma or international equivalent desired. 
  • * Preference for bachelor’s degree with a major in business administration, aviation, or a closely related field. 
  • * Minimum five (5) years in a similar airport management or aviation operations position, with at least three (3) years in a senior leadership role. Prior experience managing operations in regional or island airport settings ideal.
  • * Airport Certifications (AAAE, ACI or any accredited airport entity) preferred.
  • * Knowledge of Bahamian aviation regulations and Civil Aviation Authority-Bahamas policies and procedures.
  • * Demonstrated strong leadership and strategic planning skills
  • * Proven and deep knowledge of airport operations, safety, and security regulations
  • * Excellent financial and operational management skills.
  • * Develop and deliver presentations using available technology. 
  • * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers in the course of work.
  • * Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, measurements, and percentages.
  • * Ability to apply common sense understanding to conduct instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
  • * Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • * Must demonstrate high attention to detail and maintain meticulous recordkeeping practices.
  • * Excellent organizational and time management skills to effectively and timely complete assigned tasks and projects as assigned. Ability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment with constant change.
  • * Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, complex environment. Demonstrated ability to manage conflict, perform effectively under pressure, navigate high-stress situations, and resolve challenging circumstances with customers while exercising sound judgment and decision-making skills.

  • * Must be able to travel and work between islands, as needed. 
  • * Must be able to pass and maintain a background check and as required, maintain airport screening requirements.
  • Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • * Acquire all licenses or certificates required by regulatory agencies.
  • * Maintain a valid Bahamian work authorization and driver’s license (appropriate class) and good driving record (if required to drive airport vehicles).
  • * Meet the Aerodrome training requirements required by CAA-B.
  • * Must be able to pass and maintain required security clearances.

  • Communication Requirements
  • * Language: Must be fluent in English, both written and spoken, for effective communication with staff, stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and the public.
  • * Reading: Ability to read and interpret aviation regulations, operational manuals, safety protocols, and financial reports.
  • * Writing: Capable of producing formal reports, operational plans, correspondence, and internal communications with clarity and professionalism.
  • * Verbal Communication: Strong skills in presenting information, negotiating with stakeholders, and providing clear instructions to staff across all airport departments.
  • * Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, including airline personnel, government officials, passengers, and the local community.
  • Working Conditions and Schedule
  • * Schedules may vary depending on operational needs. 
  • * May require irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, or on-call duty during emergencies.
  • * Some travel between islands may be required.
  • Compensation and Benefits

  • Ergonomic and Physical Requirements 
  • * The role requires frequent inspections of airport terminals, airside areas, and maintenance facilities across Bahamian islands.
  • * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move more than 50 pounds and may occasionally be required to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • * Must respond to emergency situations or operational incidents, which may require mobility and quick physical coordination.
  • * Work environment may include exposure to heat, humidity, noise, and outdoor weather conditions common in the Bahamas.
  • * Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for airside, maintenance, or construction areas.
